Cooking Classes

To anyone who ever sat down at his or her favorite restaurant and thought, “Gee, I wish I could cook like this,” we would like to say: “Now, you can!”

Come join us at Hackett House cooking classes and learn to cook like the pros.

At Hackett House, you can learn how to prepare delectable-tasting treats from around the world in classes taught by the Valley’s favorite chefs.

Dinner Party Cooking Classes

Doors open at 6:00 pm for happy hour and gift shop browsing. Classes start at 6:30 pm and end at 9:00 pm.

All classes are held on our private outdoor patio. Door prizes will be awarded, including gift certificates to featured restaurants as well as many other fabulous prizes.

Prices are $50.00 per person unless otherwise noted. Register for four of the five classes for $175.00. Register for all five classes for $220.00

Tuesday, March 5, 2013, Dinner Party Cooking Class with Chef Lee Hillson

Hackett House welcomes Chef Lee Hillson, Executive Sous Chef at the Phoenician, one of the Valley’s acclaimed resort destinations where Lee oversees their nine kitchens and adds his creativity to the menu items.  Lee was most recently the Executive Chef at T. Cook’s, located in the Royal Palms resort, where he received national acclaim with an open fire kitchen and Mediterranean cuisine. Some may remember his Iron Chef battle with Cat Cora, but all who attend his class will remember the flavors of the food he creates right in front of us. Enjoy food prepared at its best as Chef Hillson serves a Kale and Shaved Pear Salad, Braised Short Ribs and a Mushroom Risotto. But wait, there’s more – Chef Hillson finishes the evening off with Peanut Butter Banana French Toast with Bacon Ice Cream!

Mario Vincitorio, owner of VinciTorio’s, named by Phoenix Magazine as the Best Neighborhood Italian Restaurant in the Valley, shares his talent and heritage for authentic Italian cuisine. Born and raised in Southern Italy, Mario may be best known for his handmade pastas and he will feature one of his most fabulous…butternut squash ravioli. Served with a fresh green salad and Banana Foster for dessert, you will be in heaven. Join Mario for an evening of “real” Italian food without leaving the comfort of Tempe.

Kim Lahn, Chef, Southwest Food Blogger, TV personality on Channel 12′s Valley Dish, contributor to Food and Flourish and burgeoning Cookbook Author, will share her food journey to a healthy and tasty eating style. In honor of the Hackett House’s latest Sister City of Cusco, Peru, Kim is featuring Peruvian-inspired dishes including: Papa a la Huancaina (Potatoes served with a spicy, creamy cheese sauce); Ensalada con Ceviche (Peruvian Style Ceviche Salad); Seco de Portobello (Rich Peruvian Portobello Stew over Roasted Garlic Yucca Root Mash): and Picarones with Chancaca Syrup (Traditional Peruvian Squash Beignets).

Culinary hobbyist, Kathy Andrews, returns to the Hackett House to share taste treats inspired by her memories from restaurants visited over the years. Join her as she cooks and her husband as he complements each course with wine, while they share their adventures and their wine tasting knowledge. Kathy’s menu will include: Quinoa Arugula Salad with artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, asparagus tips, pine nuts, and crumbled goat cheese, lightly dressed with lemon garlic vinaigrette; Artichoke Bisque with Crab Timbale; Slow-roasted Beef Short Ribs over Gorgonzola Onion Polenta; Butter-flied Shrimp topped with Lime Butter on Pesto-drizzled Crostini; Potato Pave drizzled with herb butter; and Chocolate Mousse Towers with Espresso Sauce and White Chocolate Crunch (made famous by Phoenix Chef Christopher Gross).

Tuesday, April 30, 2013, Cinco de Mayo Cooking Class with Chris Cosper and Jose Soto

Margaritas, chips and salsa are on the house for those who wish to join us as we celebrate Mexico’s 1862 military victory over the French forces. Welcome  Chris Cosper and Jose Soto of the Tempe Garcia’s Restaurant at Warner and McClintock as they prepare a traditional Cinco de Mayo feast including: Table platters of Flautas, Poco Chimis, Espinaca (Spinach) con Queso, Cheese Quesadilla, and Guacamole; Carnitas Soft Taco (slow cooked pork); Tampico Chicken (Grilled marinated chicken stuffed with jalapeno cream cheese, topped with Espinaca con Queso; traditional rice and refried beans; Deep Fried Ice Cream with honey and whipped cream, served on a Cinnamon Tortilla.
