Passport to the World – Session II

Saturday, January 24, 2015; 9:15am – 1:00pm

A multi-cultural program for Girl Scouts, ages 7-12 years that explores Tempe Sister Cities through arts, crafts, music and food.  Exclusive Hackett House patches awarded. Register online through the Cactus-Pine Girl Scout Council website.

Valentine Tea

Saturday, February 7, 2015; 1 to 3:00pm

Sign up for a tea in one of Hackett House’s historic Friendship Rooms, and you’ll find yourself enjoying a wonderful ritual from a more tranquil time. The cost is $25 per person. Champagne, mimosas and wine are available for purchase. You can also pre-order some of our delicious scones to take home with you! $24.00 for a baker’s dozen and $12.00 for a half-dozen. Flavors vary per tea menu.

Geography Bee

Wednesday, February 11, 2015; 9:00am; Tempe City Hall

Held at City Hall every year, the winner of each school’s Geography Bee for grades four to eight competes for the chance to win the overall Tempe Sister City Geography Bee.

Mardi Gras

Friday, February 13, 2015; 6:00pm to 10:00pm

The ultimate Mardi Gras street party is a lot closer than you think. Hackett House brings the New Orleans spirit to Tempe for the jazziest jamboree in town. Live Music, International Cuisine, Door Prizes, and one beer, wine or soda included in price. There will also be a No-host Full Bar, Silent Auction, and a Prize for Best Costume.  Registration is required. The cost is $29.00 per person; $25 per person for members of Tempe Sister Cities. $25 per person for two or more registrants.

March, 2015

Kitchen Club Cooking Class for Kids and Parents with Chef Kim Lahn

Saturday, March 14, 2015; 10am-2pm

Calling all kids (ages 4-11) to bring your parent to the Hackett House kitchen where we will put on our aprons, wash our hands and keep them busy stirring and chopping.  Make homemade ranch dressing and salad, 3 flavors of hummus with veggies, banana peanut butter pinwheels and a Very Berry Smoothie.  And your reward for playing in our kitchen is to sit down and eat your creations!  Registration is limited to 8 families.   Registration cost is $40 per child with parent or $10 for each additional child.

Dinner Party Cooking Class with Culinary Hobbyist Kathy Andrews

Monday, March 23, 2015; 6-9pm 

Travel to Italy for a home-style country Italian dinner without leaving the comfort of the Hackett House patio.  Begin saving those Parmesan rinds so you too can make the flavorful broth that complements a single ravioli.  Discover the flavor that develops with braised beef, tomatoes and onions (hint:  leftovers can be used to augment a Bolognese sauce).  And finish your evening with Italy’s Limoncello Berry Tiramisu.  Do all this while tasting wines that are selected to complement the foods of Italy.

What is one of the better ways to discover the culture of a region?  Through its food of course!  Taste authentic Punjabi food of India and find out why so many people are flocking back to The Dhaba restaurant for the rich, robust and diverse flavors. Monday, April 7, 2015; 6-9pm

Join Chef Greg from Tempe’s “Top of the Rock” as he transports much of his restaurant kitchen to the Hackett House patio.  Let him entertain you as his kitchen staff cooks your meal in right in front of your eyes.  Take this opportunity to ask any culinary question as he shares his tips and tricks for both good tastes and presentation.

Kitchen Club Cooking Class – The Art of Stacked Salads with Kathy Andrews

Saturday, April 18, 2015; 10am-2pm

You’ve heard about the art of layering flavors to create complex tastes.  We welcome you to the Hackett House kitchen to experience the art of literally layering food in stacks as we create cylinder salads.  Together with your kitchen crew, create:

  • Crab, avocado, hearts of palm, gazpacho cylinder;
  • Stacked Panzanella salad of dense bread croutons soaked in a flavorful vinaigrette and tossed with heirloom tomatoes, artichokes, cucumber and red bell pepper;
  • Hot salad stack of herbed potatoes and sausages with Dijon vinaigrette;
  • Quinoa stacked salad of arugula, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, goat cheese and pine nuts.

Registration of $40 is limited to 10.  Guests will leave with recipes, a full tummy and two stack molds for their home use.

Dinner Party Cooking Class with Chef Louis Basille

Monday April 27, 2015; 6-9pm

Not many CEOs and Presidents are also chefs.  Not many companies have the same commitment to freshness and quality and also to the community.  However Louis Basille is all of those and more.  Join us as he demonstrates the basics of re-creating a standard BBQ from the store into something more exciting and unique.  Begin your evening with a basket of Wildflower’s fresh bread and enjoy a sip of wine as we watch and learn from Louis.  We are always grateful for his generosity as each guest will leave with one of his award winning Artisan breads and a hot/cold bamboo insulated cup.  And we are especially grateful for his spirit that continues to give to our community.

Menu:

  • Barbecued Chicken — Learn how to cook chicken thoroughly, sealing in the moisture and flavor without burning the outer layers
  • Freshly Shucked Corn Sautéed in Butter and EVOO, Garnished with Parsley
  • Brussels Sprouts Peeled and Sautéed with Fresh Lemon Juice and Lightly Garnished with Dill and Feta
  • Mediterranean Salad

Young Artists Reception

The 2015 Young Artist Program Showcase and Awards Presentation at Hackett House honors all students participating in the 2015 Sister Cities International Young Artist Competition. All entries will be on display for viewing. Dessert Served. Friends and Family Welcome. Free.
