Young Artist Program

We are pleased to work with our parent organization, Tempe Sister Cities, in participation in the international Young Artist program.

Since 1988, the Sister Cities International Young Artists Showcase has encouraged youth from around the globe to consider the honorable mission of Sister Cities International and express their interpretation of that mission promoting peace through mutual respect, understanding, cooperation through one individual, one community at a time. Hundreds of artists have shared their talent with the sister cities community over the past 20 years.

Each September, Sister Cities International Program chooses a theme for high-school aged artists to portray in their annual competition. The students compete within their home town, with each city choosing its own winner to be entered into the worldwide competition.

This year’s Young Artist Dessert Reception will be held at the Hackett House at 7pm on

Wednesday, January 31st. All are welcome.

Here in Tempe, Hackett House volunteers select the winner that will represent Tempe in the international competition.

The 2018 Theme: The Art of Diplomacy

Sister Cities International aims to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation – one individual, one community at a time. This year’s theme, “The Art of Diplomacy” showcases the importance of both institutional and citizen diplomacy efforts to achieve peace.

How do students see the positive effects diplomacy in their everyday lives? Students are encouraged to draw inspiration from their experience with sister cities, travel, exchange, international friendships, and their goals to present their vision of the art of diplomacy. Students are encouraged to think beyond the traditional images of shaking hands to represent diplomacy and peacemaking.
