Hackett House Cleaning Day

Hackett House Reopens For Our 26th Season

Tempe Sister Cities Week Celebrating 40 Years Of Serving Our Community
Monday, October 3 – Sunday, October 9, 2011
Mayor Hallman has officially declared October 3 – 9th, 2011 as Tempe Sister Cities Week for Tempe, Arizona. This proclamation is in recognition of the 40 years of international outreach, including more than 750 student ambassadors from Tempe High Schools as well as hosting an equal number of international students.
Bakery Day at the Hackett House

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Tempe Sister Cities, Hackett House will be serving cupcakes and beverages free from 10:00am – 3:30pm. Prizes will be given away every hour on the hour. Everyone’s welcome to join the fun.
Ring of Honor Celebration at Kiwanis Park

Please join Tempe Sister Cities in celebrating this year’s Ring of Honor inductees at the Dick and Jane Neuheisel Sister Cities Garden in Kiwanis Park, Tempe. This years Honorees: Michael Curd, Debbie Duncan, Millie Wuger, Pat Hatton, Daniel and Isabelle Hoessly, Alice Goitia, Mary Larsen, Bill Pederson, Jerry Pies, Chris Quigley, and Hans Schiedinger. Entertainment provided by three Chinese performing groups. Free.
5th Annual “Making a World of Difference” Awards and Banquet
Thursday, October 6, 2011; Tempe Center for the Arts; 6pm – Meet and Greet; Dinner to Follow
This annual Tempe Sister Cities event honors individuals who have made a substantial difference in people’s lives around the globe through their humanitarian efforts. The 2011 honorees have been chosen. Plan now to attend the 5th Annual “Making a World of Difference” Awards and Banquet on Thursday, October 6, 2011 to hear their amazing stories. Taking home the awards this year are:
- Boot Girls (Texas) supporting our U.S. Veterans
- Terry and Anne Guerrant (Gilbert) for their work in micro loans
- Lisa Hopper (Tucson) World Care; recycling for humanity first

39th Annual Oktoberfest at Tempe Town Lake

Passport to the World – Session I

Children ages 7-12 years will explore the food and cultures of four Sister Cities countries through hands-on activities and crafts : Germany, France, Macedonia and New Zealand. Student delegates will share their first-hand experiences. Lunch is included. $15 per child. Optional Adult lunch is available for $5.

Nutcracker Tea

Just before the craziness of the Holiday Season, come join us for an unforgettable experience. Sunday, November 20, 2011, Hackett House will be partnering with the Southwest Ballet Company to present an unforgettable Nutcracker’s Tea with costumed dancers interacting with the children. Delicious sweets and savories prepared by the Chefs of the Le Cordon Bleu School of Culinary Arts. In addition, a quartet from the Chandler Symphony will play at the event. The Story Lady will complete the experience. Costumes are encouraged. Tea is served from 1pm to 3pm and the cost is $24.00 per person.

Sister Cities International Young Artists Traveling Show
Friday, December 2, 2011 – Sunday, December 4, 2011; 10:00am – 4:00pm
Sister Cities International Young Artist Traveling show will be on display at Hackett House. Featuring 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, ages 13-18, from Sister Cities around the world in the following categories: digital, collage, photography, prose and poetry. Four local artists and authors from Phoenix and Scottsdale are also part of this year’s international winning entries. Geography Bee

Held at City Hall every year, the winner of each school’s Geography Bee for grades four to eight competes for the chance to win the overall Tempe Sister City Geography Bee.
